Since 2014, David has operated the stud by himself, breeding two to five foals per year. Following the success of the early progeny, the stud has continued to grow in demand. By retaining key fillies to breed, the stud has seven broodmares that will be put in foal for the 2020 season.
The stud breeds horses for the highest level of Dressage sport and, as such, we focus on using both mares and stallions with proven Grand Prix lineage and performance. This breeding goal is furthered by selecting stallions from all recognized European stud books. The dual focus is on both older stallions with a proven track record of producing Grand Prix horses, complemented by younger stallions from bloodlines that demonstrate a propensity to repeatedly produce Grand Prix horses. The stud is committed to not only improving the quality of dressage horses he produces, but also improving the reliability of our horses to consistently reach the top level of dressage sport.
David works closely with top New Zealand riders and trainers, and now has horses with many well-known names such as Vanesssa Way, Melissa Galloway, Gaylene Lennard, Kieryn Walton, Lucarne Dolley and Cooper Oborn.
The stud is based on 120 acres in Woodhill Northwest Auckland. The horses are raised naturally on undulating paddocks with a mainly grass diet, supplemented with hard feed, hay and minerals and vitamins. They are handled and their feet are attended to regularly to help with correct limb development. Our aim is to produce athletic, sound horses that make it to Grand Prix consistently.
