DW Sport horses started breeding dressage horses in 2007 when David Woolley and Rania Todd purchased the thoroughbred broodmare Miss Phillips. The following year, an additional thoroughbred mare, Miss Pompeii, and a third generation NZ Hanoverian mare, Ala Mode, were added to the broodmare band.
Thoroughbred mares are purposefully chosen to add refinement and athleticism and were classified for Hanoverian Breeding. Initially, a mix of frozen semen, imported from Europe, along with New Zealand-based, European dressage sires were used. The success of the stud, to date, has been largely due to use of the Dutch stallion, Glock’s Johnson, in particular, over all three of the foundation broodmares.
